Cinema Perfecto 4TB RAID Dual External Hard Drive - PC

The Cinema Perfecto 4TB RAID is a 2-bay external RAID solution designed for redundant or high speed backup. With simplicity and flexibly in mind, this unit is equipped with two hot-swappable 3.5 inch hard drive trays, as well as both USB 2.0 and eSATA host interfaces. Each bay contains a 2 TB Hitachi 7200 RPM hard drive. On the back of a unit is a switch allowing you to switch between redundant backup which copies data simultaneously to both drives, or you can set it to Fast mode to optimize the storage speed to either hard drive, thus giving you a 4TB super drive. To switch simply power down the unit, turn the knob on the back, press the reset button, power back on and you are ready to go. In addition to RAID 0 and RAID 1, MS2UTN+B also utilizes the latest Silicon Image 5744 chipset, supporting the newest SAFE33 and SAFE50 technology. SAFE33 and SAFE50 allows the creation of two hard drive volumes where 1/3 (SAFE33) or 1/2 (SAFE50) of the volume is used for mirroring and the rest is used for Spanning (Big). In comparison to SAFE (RAID 1) mode, which utilizes both hard drives for mirroring, SAFE33 and SAFE50 increase storage space by setting aside a portion of disk space for regular data storage while performing mirror simultaneously. By incorporating SAFE33 and SAFE50, the MS2UTN+B eliminates the cost of additional hard drives needed for various storage modes. We like the quality of the enclosure and the quality, speed and dependability of the Hitachi drives as well as the easy to set RAID. As the interface is either USB 2.0 or eSATA we recommend connecting to your PC via an eSATA cable for faster speeds. Our Everest and Denali Series have external eSATA connectors ready for this unit. If you do not already have an eSATA connection on your PC back panel, you can install an inexpensive eSATA card (generally around $20) to connect to an open PCI or PCI Express slot. In many instances you may also have an open internal eSATA header that you can tap into with an interface extension cable to an eSATA connector thus not having to use up an open slot. There is a cooling fan on this unit, so it is not completely noiseless, but we don't find this noticable in daily operation.
