Shot
Diary - Continued
I
decided to shoot with one camera for the first
night and come back again the next night to
get different angles. I've used this method
before with good results. Then, I can edit the
two nights into one seamless night to give the
feeling I had two cameras. This is not as easy
as it sounds. If you are going to attempt this,
be mindful of your positioning from one night
to the next. It is amazingly easy to get drawn
to the same angles and shots. Also, I strongly
recommend reviewing the first night's footage
and making some notes before shooting the 2nd
night.
The performances were very intricate and included
projections on walls and mirrors, dancing in
hallways and stairwells, and even aerial artists.
This was particularly challenging for a videographer.
I want to cover the performance from all angles,
but it was hard to move fluidly without getting
in the way of the audience or the dancer. Sometimes,
it is not possible to get the shot you want,
but there are always creative ways to make the
most of what you can get.
